The book starts ok. A thief, being a thief with a crazy idea: kidnap the king to get a huge amount of richness. But then, as the story goes developing, the characters starts to show their true faces. And it's really interesting!Everything in this book, is different! Wizards that are spiritualists; some can enslave the spirits of everything, some spirit can willing serve a wizard or some wizard that can just ask for a spirit's help. And also a nice thing on this book is the fact that the heros, has lots of flaws! They are also weak and need help.It's a very interesting and delightful reading! Lots of action, mystery and funny moments. I loved The Spirit Thief from the instant I started reading. It was such a fun book to read! The system of magic and spirits was something I had seen before but never this developed or carried out so nicely. It was interesting to learn the different ways the characters would interact with spirits and even how the spirits would react. Spirits being able to work along side humans as partners and friends was an awesome idea, especially when it was given the flip side of enslavement being a real possibility. It was interesting to be able to see the different results based on a person's choice of interaction with a spirit and even how the spirit could be affected. Eli himself was a delightful character in my opinion. It was nice to see a character that didn't have to bully his way around. The people and spirits that helped him did so because he took the time to build a relationship with them, even if it was just by having a pleasant chat about the weather. His care and concern over his friends was important to me. Even with Nico being what she is, he's ready to defend her because she's his friend and important to a friend. That's the kind of character I liked seeing.I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series. The characters were all given a nice base in this book that I hope will be continually built upon.
