About book Medium, Sweet, Extra Shot Of Geek (2013)
Slightly bewildered by my thoughts on this one. On one hand, the subtlety and slow build romance was nice. On the other it was just a bit too subtle. I wanted more - I'm not talking about more sex, just more to the story, to the romance. Though I suspect that kind of would have gone against the whole point of the book.I think maybe I'm just a bit too neanderthal to fully appreciate the subtelty of this story. I enjoyed it enough,it's a case of it's not you it's me! The big issue: I found Tavio's POV majorly claustrophobic and just wanted O-U-T. Like, help, Jane, get me off this taciturn thing! [/paraphrasing]That was a Jetsons reference, youngsters. The burr-under-my-saddle issue: Pop culture talk in my fiction is like navigating, okay, a non-lethal minefield. For instance, I adore Star Trek, have been involved in the fandom off and on since the early eighties, but I'm not fond of seeing it talked about by fictional characters, even when their opinions echo my own (which was not wholly the case here, since no K/S shipper am I.) Crossing the streams is more likely to turn me off than turn me on, unfortunately. It definitely didn't help here.
