Alas, Maddie and Ramirez get married in this one. But there is still some good Felix moments and moments where Maddie ditches wedding stuff to investigate with Felix. The end, with the two of them, is just sad. This one kind of had a random piece of the mystery revealed at the end, but I still enjoyed the mystery. Though the kind-of-though-not-really-cause-you-know-she-marries-Ramirez triangle irritates me enough to take some enjoyment out of the series because, on their own, the mysteries are quite entertaining as is Maddie's escapades with her friends in solving them. Mayhem in High Heels was another typical segment in this book series. In order to try and get her detective fiancé to show up at her wedding, Maddie needs to solve his newest case (which involves the two finding their wedding planner face down in their cake, stabbed in the back) before the wedding hits. With the help of her best friends Dana and Marco, and the ever annoying Felix Dunn, Maddie is able to determine several suspects and speak to them, only breaking a few laws in the process. Unfortunately, the end scene where Maddie confronts the killer ends up ruining the outdoor site for her wedding, so they are forced to change their plans and (gasp) elope in Vegas with up to 20 of their closest friends and family. This series is like several I have read - they are enjoyable to read, they don't take very long to read, but I don't think they're very good books overall (hence my average ratings). One thing, however, that I really enjoyed about this book was the bet that Maddie and Jack made, allowing Maddie to investigate the murder - provided she doesn't impersonate officers or, later, break any laws. It definitely made it interesting to see how obsessive Maddie got regarding the homicide investigation, to the point where she would have missed almost everything she had scheduled for her wedding preparations the week before her wedding. She finally has the experience of a detective - interviewing suspects, chasing down leads, following various people involved with the case. This, in my opinion, is what makes her ready to actually marry Jack, because she now understands why he is so preoccupied whenever he has an active case to solve. Despite the fact that I still think its weird for them to be marrying when it seems like they don't spend much time together and the proposal seemed spur of the moment and simply a reaction from Jack to seeing Felix and Maddie together in Paris. However, despite my misgivings about the logicality of the two as a couple, much less as a married couple, the ending to this book was sweet and I'm interested to see what is happening in their relationship during the next book.

It was a little on the silly side, but made for a fun beach read. And I loved the ending :)
