Book 3 in the Allie Beckstrom series. So I'm finally near the end of my TBR pile and living there are 4 complete series that I just recently got all the pieces of: Night Huntress Complete World (Cat & Bones), Weather Warden, The Hollows, and Allie Beckstrom. The thing that these series all have in common is that after reading just one book of each series I fell in love with them and knew that I'd have to have it all on hand before starting because I wouldn't want to stop once I started. Well through the years I've refused to read the newest releases in the series' rather than read just one a year, saving them all up for a marathon read of the whole series. The Hollows is going to have to wait until the final one comes out next year. I just this month read all the Night Huntress World books (or will have by the end of the month) because I just couldn't wait any longer even though the final book isn't until next year either. Which brings me to this series. If Allie and Zayvion stay like they are for the series then this might play out like a Cat & Bones tale - no stupid love triangles to muck up the story, just a neat relationship and one hell of an adventure. As of book 3, so good so far. I was caught by my daughter yelling out loud in frustration at Allie several times past the middle of the book - Allie can make you think that she's barely 20 years old sometimes. Great world building and still more of a Dark Urban Fantasy than a Paranormal Romance. It's great but it does make me yearn for another Jill Kismet novel from Lilith Saintcrow. Magic In The Shadows is the third book in the Allie Beckstrom series. Allie delves deeper into the Authority, the rulers of magic, while investigating Tomi's unusual behavior.What I Liked:The expansion of the cast. The book introduced many new characters. Highlights include: Stone the Toilet Whisperer, Shamus, the Necromorph, and Jingo Jingo.Allie's character development. Allie takes on more responsibilities - the Hounds, etc, and makes decisions about her life - Beckstrom Enterprises, self-defense classes, and learning more on magic.Zayvion Jones - still made of awesome.Daniel Beckstrom - The details of his death are still a mystery as are his motivations. I hope we find out more in the next book.
