Ever since I discovered Veronica Henry I have been a big fan of her works. She creates stories that aren't overtly feminine with characters and plot lines that are strong and familiar. Of all her books I didn't particularly enjoy A Night On The Orient Express but with this one I felt on much safer ground. There are a variety of characters with different backgrounds and abilities, some you love and some you love to hate. Of all of them I really warmed to Lisa. She was down to earth, a sympathetic main character. Whereas George and Victoria less so. But I didn't think you were supposed to like them, they were steal very real. Some characters, like George's friend, I found a bit superfluous. The interweaving stories were much better and varied, ranging from how to deal with a death in the family to starting up a business and Henry switched between the different stories enough to keep in interesting but not so much that it became irritating. The setting of Mariscombe I also found to be pleasant and charming, a place I could easily picture, made up from different parts of the British seaside that I visited during family holidays. As always Love On The Rocks was a great read, I equal her books to getting into a bed made with fresh bed sheets and look forward to reading her next.
Love on the rocks by Veronica Henry is an excellent read. I took every character to heart, including those in the bonus short story A Sea Change and I will miss them all now that I have finished reading. There are no villains in Love on the rocks. The crazy ex wife of new hotel owner George is endearing, the pompous big wig rival hotel owner Bruno is a softie underneath and even his selfish brother is just very troubled. Every character is after all only human. It has also given me a fresh perspective of life by the sea. It is not all ice cream, surfing and holiday romance. There are people living very hard lives. Veronica Henry's style is very Maeve Binchy/ Cathy Kelly and she has become my new favourite and recommended author.
Do You like book Love On The Rocks (2015)?
This is about events in Mariscombe, a seaside town in Devon. Lisa and George take over the Rocks Hotel with big plans for its refurbishment. Then George's wife turns up unexpectedly - no one more shocked than Lisa, who hadn't known George was still married! Bruno Thorne turns his back on the city and takes control of the Mariscombe Hotel, a competitor for the Rocks. Bruno's family was rocked by the death of Bruno's brother Joe a couple of years earlier, and where does Molly the chambermaid fit into all this? A lovely story with twists and turns - Veronica Henry's best yet in my opinion!

This was one of those books that are easy to read and don't take too much concentration, ideal book for me to read at the time that I read it.I've read several of Veronica Henry's books over the years and have several more on my huge TBR pile. Settling down to read her books is like slipping into a comfy chair. Whilst, some of it was a little predictable it didn't detract away from my enjoyment in anyway at all.Great characters all with their flaws, humour, romance and a lovely setting what more could you want?A perfect summer time read or any time of the year read. Settle back and enjoy the journey with them all if you get the chance to read it.
