About book Lousy Rotten Stinkin' Grapes (2009)

This was a funny rework of the Aesop fable "Fox and the Grapes". Even though Fox views himself as a great strategist, he's unable to come up with a successful plan to get the grapes that are hanging in a tree. He also is unable to recognize good advise when he hears it, because every animal that he asks has an alternate solution that he won't listen to despite it being a good idea. I'm going to assume that the grapes are growing in the tree, not from the tree. Anyway, when he finally runs out of ideas he declares that the grapes must be sour rather than let someone else solve the problem. He storms off and all the other animals get some grapes their own way. Very funny story. Margie Palatini has a naughty sense of humor, and I love it! In this book, she takes the Aesop's fable "The Fox and the Grapes" and puts a modern twist to it. Fox is clearly the brainy one in his humble opinion, and his plans are a hoot. He enlists one animal after another to help get those grapes that are hanging up so high in the tree. Fox's plans (labeled Plan Alpha, Delta, etc) get more and more complicated, but with sad results. This cumulative tale really appeals to kids! As a read aloud, using different voices sure was entertaining to me and my classes.
