About book Gone With The Wand (2009)

ToothFair Second Class Edith B. Cuspid does her best to help her dear friend, Bernice Sparklestein, once the greatest Fairy Godmother in the world, when Bernice's wand goes bad. Edith rummages through her closets to find some of her old fairy outfits and encourages Beatrice to give them a try. She's allergic to fairy dust, though, freezes up when she tries to be a snow fairy, and eats all the sweets when she tries being a sugarplum fairy. It seems Beatrice is out of work for good until Edith gets an ingenious idea. Margie Palatini's signature humor is perfectly complemented by Brian Ajhar's comical illustrations; those of Bernice in the sugarplum fairy outfit are particularly hilarious. What's a fairy godmother to do when she can't be a fairy godmother anymore? Bernice Sparkelstein, the world's best fairy godmother was having a "bad wand day". Her good friend Edith, a tooth fairy, decides to help her find other fairy jobs (my favorite was the sugar-plum fairy). Eventually, Edith finds Bernice the perfect fairy job for her.I loved the zany illustrations! I could (and did) spend some time today looking at all the details hidden in the pictures. It was perfect for my fantasy genre lesson today, and the students thought it was hilarious.
