About book Los Calabozos De Langeis (2000)

I was very pleasantly surprised by this book. I expected it to be filled with really annoying bits and bobs of Twilight wannabe short stories, but what I found was, in fact, some really amazing tales, with great creativity, unusual settings, and where the story and setting were more important, far more, than any annoying romance.Even the two tales I disliked most "Dungeon of Langelais" (by the author of Hush, Hush) and Vermilion were not too shabby and my annoyances with it were minor.(In Dungeons, the problems with the protagonist could be avoided if he thought of drugging and trapping himself in the day the angel came to possess him. It seemed the good gentleman was smart enough to try to blackmail an angel but not to outwit it. In Vermilion, the protagonist was a bitch, and not a fun one, and the conflict with her boyfriend was obviously forced. I wasn't surprised to find out the story was written by a man. It felt SO much like what a man with no notion of what women are like imagined a "sassy" girlfriend is like, it wasn't even funny.)But still. I liked it. I liked it a whole lot. One of the best anthologies I ever read and definitely top class in its genre. Recommended. 13 Short stories about paranormal love. There's the story about the decendants of angels who hunt demons; the unicorn hunter who finds a kindred spirit; the vampire who runs into a half-djinn; the girl who is Persephone; Peter Pan; the girl who falls for a ghost; the girl who sacrifices her love to save her village; the girl who picks a shifter for a familiar; the girl who feeds on fear; the ghost police force; the girl who watched her friend fall for a faerie; and the widower who took in his daughter's love after he rose from the dead. Interesting stories.

Read a few of these on the beach. Nice, short stories that still have some plot twists and depth.
