About book Long Haul: Diary Of A Wimpy Kid V9 EKF (2014)
This book is a strange and uncanny story in the popular series Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The family is going on a road trip which is supposed to be fun. Then a weird series of events happen through out this road trip. This book takes you through Greg's life as he writes about his family on the road trip. I recommend this book for anyone looking for a funny, great book. I personally like the plot of this book and how his life turns out. I liked this book, from the beginning to the end although if you want a book but without a lot of pictures in it,this is not for you. This book is an easy read and if you love this one, read the full series. Yup. This series is out of steam.I love Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I love watching as Greg gets slammed by karmic retribution for his jerk behavior. However, it's been pumping out book after book after book... and it gets tiring. I don't think Jeff Kinney is enjoying himself writing these books anymore. And if the author doesn't enjoy writing the book, the reader won't enjoy reading it.Taken as its own book, The Long Haul is fun to read. It's funny, and has moments we can all relate to. It's a feel-good book that will make you laugh out loud. But taken as part of the series, it's out of place. Greg isn't much of a jerk (which can be a good or bad thing, depending on your opinion, but it is a different direction), and the road trip is what drives the plot.Essentially, in terms of comparisons, The Long Haul is a funny Jim Carey movie, whereas the rest of the series (and the first three books especially) is Bruce Almighty. The earlier books will always be better. I think what's happening is that Jeff is being forced by Amulet to pump out books like he's an assembly line, because a Wimpy Kid book has never failed to sell well. What he needs is a good rest from the Heffleys, maybe even a departure from the series altogether. But, of course, they put a sequel hook at the end, so Amulet would never allow it.All of this said, The Long Haul is a fun read, and I would definitely recommend it, whether for the long-time fan or for the new guy wondering what all the fuss is about.
