It is a good book to spend time reading. Allie has a generalized belief/view of God but does her best to trust him. Someone is stalking her and killing members of her family. The police don't seem to care. She runs to the Bluebird Youth Ranch, which turns out to be her grandfather's place. She's hoping for protection without telling him she needs protection. The foreman is an ex-alcoholic who promised Allie's husband he would take care of her. He didn't. Lots of obstacles and personal growth. Talk about distrust at first sight! Allie is being stalked and harassed by an unknown force. This person has killed her loved ones, threatened her, followed her, and messed with her. She runs away to her grandfather's ranch in search of help for her daughter who hasn't spoken since witnessing a horrific accident and also finding a ranch hand that was her husband's best friend, Rick. Rick has a damaged past, brought up by an abusive mother. His first meeting with Allie leads him to believe she is an unfit mother also and starts the relationship off with a sour taste. Allie is running scared, and I don't really think she knows what to do aside from try to survive each day and help her daughter in the meantime. There are a lot of things going on in this story, but it's not so jumbled that the reader feels lost or I satisfied with the storyline. Allie and Rick marry, as strangers, to protect her daughter. Love and trust begin to build as they deal with the challenges of the stalker, the ranch, raising a child, discovering who each other really are on the inside. Rick immediately sets the tone for the marriage by enlisting the pastor to counsel and guide them. I love that!! This is a great story. I enjoyed it very much.
