I have read so many historical fiction books in which two people marry for convenience, or because one is a mail-order bride, I'm almost sick of the same old plot...but, I often wondered, how would this work in a contemporary fiction novel? How could you get two people to marry for convenience and fall in love? I think it's more difficult because it is no longer common like it was in the "pioneer days." So, that's exactly what happens in this book, and it was actually believable. I enjoyed it and found it easy to read and hard to put down. At the beginning of the book Gracie and her daughter runs away from her terrible fiancee. She escapes wearing a wedding dress with no money. She goes to Texas and meets Lieutenent Michael. Michael gives her a job tending to his children. They try to avoid falling in love, but they do. Their love is put to the test. Gracie's ex-fiancee catches up with her. He captures her and plans to take her across the border. Michael has drug cartels after him and planning to kill him. The book shows how love can conquer anything. It was such an exciting book. I couldn't put it down.
