About book Locke & Key, Vol. 4: Keys To The Kingdom (2011)
The fourth installment of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez's Locke and Key series takes creative storytelling to another level. Highlights include a chapter illustrated by Calvin and Hobbes's artist Bill Watterson, a chapter entitled "February" organized by days, a touchingly eerie chapter entitled "Casualties," and a shocking conclusion that perfectly sets up the next graphic novel in the series. In many ways this was the most creative volume in the series so far, an impressive blend of storytelling and art that reminds me that graphic novels are still some of the most unique stories out there today. For four volumes now, Locke & Key has repeatedly showed me well a written and beautifully illustrated story that has pushed it to the top of my "to read list".Volume 4: Keys to the Kingdom, introduced more keys than in previous ones, and the artwork, though different, is still as strong as the previous volumes. Volume 3 was sad, creepy, and quiet. This was the calm before the storm because Volume 4 is packed with surprises, charm, violence, and the best ending so far.
