I read this in about an hour on a plane. This series is pretty consistently amazing. It's creative and I care about the characters and it has elements of horror writing that I've loved since I was 14 without the horror/supernatural aspects becoming annoyingly intrusive. I know, as a text-based person, that I am not enjoying the art to the level it deserves. I expect that I will buy this entire series (I've been getting it from the library) and that I will read them repeatedly. It feels like a series that will only get better with repeated reading. This is just ridiculously good. I never want to not be reading this series. Which is sad because I am half way through it. I seriously cannot wait to see what happens--especially when Zack is found out. Sweet victory. Aside from this, continued greatness from both Hill and Rodriguez. In particular from Hill is the idea of having Ty read Peter Pan to Bode on the night the shadows attack--it's too good. And I hope there are endless keys to discover and use. In particular from Rodriguez is a panel where Bode watches a home video of his dad and the only thing in the panel is his face. It is so expressive. His cartoon eyes held love, longing, and pride for his father. And I even cried a little because I am sad that Bode has to grow up without a father. This is a comic book, people, and I am crying for the characters. That is skill and talent from both the writer and the artist. Okay enough, it is so good. SO GOOD. And I love the way it comes together flawlessly. Always.
