3 stars for the story + 1 simply for the ending (had me SOW)I picked this book just to kill time....and in the chapters after the failed wedding I was just doing that. For me, the story picked up way much later, when supporting characters of Wynette and their situation came in light.Characters: MEG was a fierce, spirited, outspoken female lead who learns to be on her own and decide what she wants out of life and her quirks, her guts, eccentricities and her tough exterior and bravado makes her different from the usual self-depracating, self-conscious and the-I-don't-deserve-him heroines who are never able to stand up to their too perfect, "inhumanly beautiful" Demi-god lovers.I liked that about her and also how she became responsible and did the right thing. TED,however acted like a jerk(even if some say he had reason)in the beginning after the wedding and he was kept an enigma for quite long in the story. He became likable only towards the end when more of his p.o.v. was shown and in the last chapters he totally became humane and worthy of Meg. I need not comment on hos looks, hair or his mind because as we all know a hero won't be a hero until he's unbearably beautiful. But apart from all this, I liked how he was portrayed as a saint, with halos 'round his head and very calm and cool...that's mostly unlikely in heroes. Other characters worth mentioning are Torie, Lucy the runaway bride and all nosy people of Wynette who helped in binding the story together. All in all this book is a fairly decent read and if you tolerate the boring parts in the beginning and proceed ahead, you would find yourself waiting for their Happily-ever-after. DNF- I only got through chapter 4 of this book. Maybe it's that I didn't read any of the other books in this series, but I didn't like anything about it- not the town, the people in it, or any of the main characters. When it came down to the "heroine" not having enough money to pay her hotel bill and being forced to work there as a maid, I was done. The "hero" to this point had zero personality and, apart from what we hear from townspeople, no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I have so little time to read I am not going to waste what I do have reading such drivel. Meh.
