About book Call Me Irresistible (2011)

This book was a bit of a disappointment for me and I took ages to finish it. I didn't much like the main character Meg Koranda - a bit too whiney. Francesca and Lady Emma from previous books in the series also turned up but had rather nasty personalities, totally different to before. It was a shame as they were so fun in Fancy Pants and Lady Be Good. There was also less humour to this than previous Susan Elizabeth books I have read. I have mostly read her older books so I don't know if this is something common to her more recent books or just Call Me Irresistible.I listened to the audiobook version and although the narrator was fine and she did a lot of good accents, I don't think her voice really suited the characters. I think I prefer to read Susan Elizabeth Phillips to myself and will stick to the Kindle versions from now on. A marriage made in heaven. Lucy Jorik, the daughter of the former President of the United States is set to marry Ted Beaudine the favourite son of Wynette, Texas. But when Lucy's friend Meg turns up she spots the Emperor's New Clothes - Ted IS perfect, just not for Lucy.Poor Meg is having a bad week. She's flat broke, her parents are practising tough love (and so are her brothers), she's broken up her best friend's marriage (at the church) and she's about to be arrested for vagrancy by the mayor, who also happens to be the jilted groom!Soon the daughter of a supermodel and an action movie star is cleaning toilets in a motel for $7.50 an hour and sleeping in her rust bucket car.As with any romance, it is always clear from the outset what is going to happen so it is no surprise that Meg and Ted get together. I am a sucker for the perfect man falling for the town screw-up - reminds me of the Cary Grant film Operation Petticoat.Somehow, living at subsistence level and working menial jobs actually gives Meg some self-respect and job satisfaction, despite the fact that the whole town loathes her.
