About book Little Beauty (2010)

In this book, it is a story about a gorilla. The gorilla is lonely and wants a friend. The zookeepers end up getting him a friend, a kitty. Now that the gorilla has a friend, he is happy. At first you can tell they had to get to know each other and then they were very close friends. Then one day, he got really mad and breaks the television. The zookeepers want to know who broke the television. It has a surprising funny ending to the book. The illustrations were well done. They were able to tell the story very well. The illustrations were very detailed and contained humorous components to the story. The images displayed emotions very well. You were able to see if the character was sad, happy, or angry. For example, on one page it showed the gorilla red to show that he was angry and mad. The book is a very easy read. It had short sentences and was easy to flow. The text included dialogue. The dialogue keeps the reader engaged. The way some sentences were structured made you wonder what would happen next. On one page it would say half the sentence and the next page the sentence would end. It created some climax to the story. This is a heartwarming tale about a Gorilla who lives in a zoo and is very lonely. He signs to his keepers one day that he would like to have a friend. They give him a kitten named Beauty. They were best friends and did everything together. One night, however, they were watching a movie together that made the Gorilla very angry and he broke the television. When the keepers saw the broken television, they threatened to take Beauty away because they were afraid for her life.Beauty, knowing the true nature of the Gorilla, signed to the keepers that she was in fact the creature who had broken the television. Because she did that, the keepers let her stay and the two animals lived happily ever after. The pictures in this book are wonderful for large audiences, and the friendship between them is very touching. I have mixed feelings about the end of this story when the kitten lies for her friend. Although it means that they get to stay together, taking the blame for someone else is rarely the best course of action. It shows that there is true friendship between the two characters, but I don’t know if it’s the best message to send to children reading the story.
