About book Liebe Gegen Jede Regel (2000)

So I've come to a startling realization about myself. Well, okay not all that startling. But explains a lot about the books I enjoy... and the books I don't. I like angst and drama. I need some intense emotions and feelings to be attached to a character and I didn't get that from this book. I got fluff and sugar. The main character is a wonderful guy, who does wonderful things. His dad was a wonderful guy who did wonderful things. His step-dad was a wonderful guy who did wonderful and nice things. Everybody is loving and wonderful! Except the evil bitch, but every story needs an evil bitch. But it's okay! BECAUSE EVERYBODY ELSE IS WONDERFUL AND DOES WONDERFUL THINGS. It was all fluff and love and I just wasn't in to it. And a large part of that is the stilted writing. It sometimes reminded me of a children's book rather than a mildly erotic novel. "We are going to plant the fields. We planted the fields. I am tired because we planet the fields". Highly repetitive and there were multiple times where we are given information that is so random and pointless that you actually have to stop reading, go back and stare at it for a moment, confused as to why we needed to know his brand of toilet paper (not something that actually happened, just unfortunately similar) for the advancement of the novel. And the action between the two main characters, our love interest.. made me cringe. Too corny, too cheese and just to unrealistic. It's not one I'm going to recommend or read anything else by this author because it was a pain to get through, personally. The first 50% of the book had promise and I was steadily reading along. Then after Geoff and Eli hooked up, the book went downhill and fast. I got bored. Not sure how old Geoff is but I didn't like that he was able to solve everyone's problems so easily. The sex was not hot at all. And I hope that's not really how the Amish treat their people when they take a break/sabbatical. How the hell was Eli expected to thrive in the English world with no money or place to live???It would have been nice if we learned more about the Amish culture, that was a "miss" there. And I didn't believe that Eli's dad would just so readily accept his homosexuality based on how the dad was portrayed. Not buying it.Geoff calling Eli "Tiger" got on my nerves. And why was there no talk of safe sex with all the men Geoff was with? 3-4 men a week? Maybe I should go back to Cattle Valley, at least they're responsible and the sex is hot over there :-)
