About book Liberty Defined: 50 Essential Issues That Affect Our Freedom (2011)
This book took me through the range of emotions as I read it. At times I was really angry because I disagreed strongly with either the viewpoint or what I felt was the colorization of the view point. Other times I completely agreed and felt in tune with the author. This sort of emotional connection, good and bad, is what makes a really good book in my opinion. What I was really left wondering is how does the many ideas which the author puts forward actually take root, are people really ready to take the level of action required to make these important changes? This is a book full of important ideas for our time, you should read it. The ideas that Ron Paul presents in this book are very interesting, yet his writing ability is average, at best. (There is no ghost writer here, to be sure.) Essentially, this book is only an introduction to libertarianism as applied to some contemporary issues. For detailed discussions of these same topics, go to antiwar.com, mises.org, and lewrockwell.com. Sample quote from the chapter on Keynesianism: "To reject the pie-in-the sky promises of Keynesianism, one would have to reject the authoritarian goals of welfarism and warfarism on the cheap. But that's too much to expect at present. It won't occur deliberately by the Keynesians, but eventually an economic collapse will end it."
