About book End The Fed (2009)

This is a short book that every American should read so that they can know of the power that the Federal Reserve and Central Bank has. And that it is something that has the potential to undermine our republic. Despite some good stories from Ron Paul, the approach seemed petty at times. I felt like he just published his arguments with the Chairmen that he had in his various committees. He finally got around to making final arguments about why we should end the fed towards the end, but I do not agree with his belief in re-instituting the gold standard. I am open to it, but the arguments presented in the book were not convincing. This does not mean that the overall message is not important, but I especially enjoyed his call out to Congress that they should know about how the Fed works and how we pay our bills instead of just appropriating monies. He was right that most Congressman are clueless as to the workings of the Fed, and they should be better educated as elected Government Representatives to ensure that it works to benefit and not the detriment of our Country. So first I would like to say that I agree with Ron Paul's conclusions in the book, but not because he persuaded me in his argument. Because I mostly agree with him, I want to give this a good review, but the teacher in me just can't. It seems like this book was written in haste. The organization of the book is pretty random. It's style is conversational, which can be good, but in this case made Paul seem like he was constantly ranting. Support for his conclusions is not usually adjacent to the conclusions, but sometimes comes chapters later. And if you have not already studied basic economic systems and monitary policy, you probably won't be able to follow all of his discussion. I find this a bit ironic, as he complains about economic ignorance in this country, but doesn't take time to explain the economics he uses for support in the book. That said, this is a fast read, and the sections on his interactions with Fed chairmen are quite enlightening. He also used some excellent quotes from our founders. If you really want to go into a deep economic discussion of military policy, this is not the book for you. However, if you already support and understand the market system, you may find a few take aways from Paul's book.
