About book Ääliö Ulkomailla - Karl Pilkingtonin Matkapäiväkirjat (2013)
Ääliö ulkomailla -tv-sarja nauratti ja viihdytti jonkin verran. Ajattelin, että kirja voisi tarjota jotain uutta, toisenlaisen näkökulman tai taustatietoa ohjelman tekemisestä. Eipä juuri, vaan kirja oli aika lailla tekstiversio siitä kaudesta, jolla Karl kiersi katsomassa maailman ihmeitä: pyramidit, Machu Picchu, Taj Mahal, Kiinan muuri jne. Vitsit toimivat toki näinkin, mutta lukeminen runtui ajanhukalta, kun olin vitsit jo kuullut telkkarista. Kirjaa lukiessa ehkä enemmän häiritsi se ristiriita, mikä telkkarissakin häiritsi, eli että pannaanko tässä lukijaa/katsojaa halvalla. Vähän enemmänkin olisi voinut yrittää tämän kirjan eteen tai jättää sen tekemättä. Luulen, että Ricky Gervais nauraa parhaiten. Karl Pilkington has a uniquely skewed view of things. And though many of his theories are way off base, he remains humorous and mostly unfazed despite the torments that Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant put him through. Ricky and Steve are constantly harping on his cloistered lifestyle and send him on various travels around the world to see the "Modern Wonders of the World." He puts up with far more hardship than I imagine Mr. Gervais or Merchant could stomach, which makes me wonder who among the three is the more worldly...?
