About book L'hotel Degli Incontri Segreti (2014)

There's a certain tone in Ms.Stein's writing, at least in the 2 books I've read by her, that captures me and pulls me into a story. First with Shelter, and now with Run to you. The story is written so matter of factly that it feels REAL. That Alissa and Janos' affair is real. As I finished the book, all I could think was that they rivaled my all time favorite couple - Dan and Elle. This story took me in and wrapped around me, from the scorching hot sex to the emotional overloads of both characters. The dialogues, while not lengthy, were witty and interesting. The monologues were descriptive and bone seeping. Absolutely loved this story Two point five, simply for the smut. This book is probably the A #1 best example of why I cannot stand first person narratives. There is so much non-sensical meandering going on that it's hard to pinpoint where conversations are happening between characters. At first it seems that it's to be a murder/mystery whodunit in the point of view of a mousy gal, then turns to kinky assignation action. He is too standoffish, emotionally closed off. Mouse girl calls him on it and miraculously he changes in an instant. Then we have the ILYs and everything is hunky-dory until he sends her off for the Pretty Woman makeover to attend a high-faluting charity something or another. There, Mouse Girl freaks out because he is attempting to change her mousey ways. She freaks out, runs to visit her island vacationing best friend, and he shows up on the beach to save her from throwing the smallest, yet most significant token of their time together into the ocean: a snow globe of an island he had given her. I would like to see this re-worked. Many of her characteristics hit home with me, but I don't feel as if I got to know each character as well as I'd liked to. He was just too easy to lie down and declare his adoration. Anyone that is that emotionally closed off has reasons, same for her. And lose the rambling. Jaysus. I wanted to jump through the pages just to slap her and tell her to shut the fuck up.
