About book L'extraordinaire Voyage Du Fakir Qui était Resté Coincé Dans Une Armoire Ikea (2013)

I didn't love this book. I thought I would love this book. It seemed like the author was taking advantage of and poking fun and way too many people who had lives of incredibly dire circumstances and I was never able to stop thinking about that. I enjoyed the main character and am pleased by the way things turned out for him - felt happy when he was able to escape some sticky situations and eventually find love - but perhaps the sense of humour of this author does not match mine?I hesitated a great deal before choosing my # of stars today. I was pretty sure that this one might deserve more stars and that maybe I am going through pre-Christmas grouchy emotions and not able to see humour or good in things but today's Peanut's comic left me breathless so I know that my funny bone is still working. So I'll give the book a nice 2 star rating for a character that I enjoyed a nice tempo that was almost heist-like at the end. Other than that the book kind of bugged me. I won't be passing it on to many patrons and have already suggested that a favourite friend remove it from her towering list of books to read. On to the next! I enjoyed this story about a fakir from India who travels to Paris to visit an IKEA store to buy a nail bed. He comes with a counterfeit 100 Euro bill printed only on one side and a desire to get in and out of Paris as quickly as possible. Nothing goes according to plan. In a humorous and quirky way, he visits London, Rome and Libya. Along the way he makes an enemy who tracks him, great friends trying to emigrate anywhere and befriends a famous actress. Hard to believe? You bet but very funny. The book also very subtly talks about emigration, following your own path with all it's twists and turns and making a decision to live a better life. The message never overwhelms the story and I laughed out loud many times. It's an unusual book that is well worth the read. I highly recommend it.

Började bra men föll isär allt eftersom. Stundtals situationskomik men mest tramserier...

Good for light reading on the plane. Fast-paced, humorous, but not a lot of there there.

grappig, met de diepgang van een doktersromannetje.

A slightly ridiculous yet enjoyable read!
