About book Let's Just Say It Wasn't Pretty (2014)

Not the typical life story book. But something more reflective. I started it this morning thinking I would soon be board and by 11:00 this evening I finished it. I just couldn't put it down. I love how she found a lot of answers in her obsession in fixing up houses and then selling them and moving on to the next place, never finding what she was looking for. Not until forced into a house because of circumstance. Where she found "neighbors again", like when she was little. People that care and look out after each other. People that help each other. It almost sounds like she's found a family again. A place to belong. That kind of metaphor for her life, runs all through this book and it just kept me reading. Also her stories about her and her children, the everyday stuff that makes up a life, made me smile. Sounding like my children and I. I've always loved Diane Keaton. A great actress and a woman of grace, she talks of her choice of not doing the "Botox or plastic surgery", but about finding grace in who she is. To me that is beautiful. She is hard on her self about her looks. I think we all criticize our selves in that department, but I think she's hard on her self. I think she's always been beautiful. She glows. Her face lights up when she smiles. I hope she sticks to her decision to never do plastic surgery and keeps the beauty she has. One of the best "self stories" I've ever read. I heard this book and it was read by the author so that was great. Her voice is familiar to me. She talks frankly about her life and how she "stumbled" into acting. She does reveal a couple of "jawdroppers" that I had no clue about. But some of it seemed silly like the bumbling character she often plays.Maybe I was looking for Hollywood gossip. It wasn't here to her great credit. Other things that I would have like to have known weren't there either.Nice read and nice audio.

It's a random and sometimes meandering book but it has it's wacky charm just like it's author
