About book Le Tueur De La Green River (2011)

This graphic novel is about as far from lurid as a story about this sort of subject can be, instead interesting itself in the decency that drives its detective heroes to spend decades on the trail of a murderer whose evil turns out to be less diabolical than merely pathetic. A remarkable, close-up story by the main detective's son. A real page-turner that left me, at the end, with a lump in my throat. A cracking good read. Overall, I liked the book, but there wasn't anything that made me love the book. I enjoyed the comic/graphic novel approach since I'm a visual person. Pictures are good, however I realized if this book were just text, it wouldn't be much of a good read. The drawings made the book come together. I would've enjoyed more backstory about the various murders since I assume there wouldn't be much backstory to the killer's life outside the murders he committed, but I won't ever know because that wasn't the intent of the book. The author clearly stated at the end that the book wasn't meant to be history or memoir, two genres I appreciate, so there wasn't a clear point to the book for me.A side note/rant and possible spoiler for folks:This initially didn't catch my eye but when the gravity of the panel hit me, I realized a glaring mistake.... On page 153 of the hardcover, the bottom panel shows the detective's planner for the week that 9/11 occurred. Someone tell me how no one noticed in editing that there's no entry for September 10!! The planner shows Sep. 8, then 9, then 11. The entry for the 11th is dead center of the panel to highlight the context of the investigation in relation to US news, yet no one remembered how to count or even look up online the correct day/dates for that week to illustrate.Ok, rant over.
