Enola HolmesThe Enola Holmes series are such delightful books! In this installment, Enola is once again called upon to rescue Cecily Adams, the Left-Handed young lady from book two. Enola encounters the girl at a lady's lavatory where she is obviously being held under the watchful eyes of two dowagers who do not have her best interest at heart. Cecily leaves Enola a pink fan with clues hidden upon it regarding her present, and intolerable situation, in the hopes that Enola will be able to rescue her from a marriage being forced upon her.The girl is quickly whisked away and now Enola must track down her whereabouts before it is too late. Her investigations bring her perilously close to discovery from her brothers, Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes, both of whom have been looking for her since she went into hiding after her mother's rather abrupt disappearance.These stories are so well written and imagined! Enola may only be a fourteen year old girl, but she is also very resourceful and as intelligent as her two brothers. I enjoy getting a different perspective of both Sherlock and Mycroft. As exasperated as they both are over not being able to capture their errant sister, I love that Sherlock is starting to see just how resourceful and independent Enola truly is. Although her behavior is considered inappropriate for a young lady of those times, he is also somewhat amused and proud of her accomplishments. I can't wait for Enola's next adventure! Enola Holmes may be a girl and only fourteen years old, but she is every inch a match for her older brothers, Sherlock and Mycroft, as she scrambles in and out of costumes and hideouts while solving mysteries and crimes. When Enola encounters a young lady carrying a pink fan in the first London Ladies Lavatory, the lady signals her for help using the pink fan. Lady Celia is being held captive by two large, strong women who are forcing her to marry against her will to a brute of a man. Enola continually matches wits with her brothers as she rushes to keep her friend from the alter. I enjoyed this middle grade/ya book. I'm always happy to find another Sherlock Holmes spin off.
