About book Le Confessioni Di Una Contessa (2014)

That handsome preacher and cousin to the Eversea's we've been teased with in other Pennyroyal Green books finally experiences temptation when he meets Eve a notorious widow. Adam has always been even keeled, controlling of his emotions and an excellent pastor. His days are filled with his parishoners' needs and Adam is gratified with that most of the time. He doesn't recognize he is lonely until Eve, who is new to the town asks his help in making friends. Eve's reptuation has traveled from London to Pennyroyal with tales of duels, lovers, and sinful behavior. When her husband died from too much marital activity, his entailed property went to a cousin. But Eve and her friend/maid Henny go to a manor he won in a card game, just like he won the chance to marry Eve. So Eve who has reinvented herself before must do it again but can't without the pastor giving her a seal of approval. Once he does, Eve - a former actress can convince the women of the town she is a friend. This story features a lot of hypocrisy with double standards for men, jealousy, and judgement. Eve finds she is unable to lie to Adam, and in a quiet moment tells him there were only 2 men before her husband. Adam is charismatic, good and sexy. An irresistible combination to the women of the town. He and Eve find themselves drawn to each other but know the town will never accept them as a couple. I liked Eve- she was honest about her life, had no regrets and her theme song should be "What I did for love". When she is challenged to help some hellions and their exhausted mother she does and does it well because she lived that life. There are some funny parts to relieve the tension and some beautiful lines- like when Eve sees the poverty of those kids it's like she sees her past, present and future all at once. P.s. Colin's song makes a great lullaby . vie Duggan is no stranger to scandal, born an Irish peasant; she becomes an opera dancer and becomes the Countess of Wareham, after being won by the Earl in a card game. She quickly earns the title of the Black Widow when her new husband drops dead shortly after the wedding. Shunned by the Ton, Evie decides to seek peace at the Manor that is now hers in Pennyroyal Green. His uncle made Adam Sylvaine the Vicar of Pennyroyal Green, but his hard work and dedication to his new position earned him the respect of his community (Not to mention the fact that most of the ladies are in love with him). The community of Pennyroyal Green is not ready to accept the Black Widow. Evie seeks help from the Reverend to remedy this problem. Adam and Evie have an attraction that is magnetic right from the start, but both are determined to avoid the complication. Adam sets out to help Evie and begins an internal struggle as he beings to feel more than friendship for this woman. Fans of the Pennyroyal Green series will not be disappointed with this latest edition. This book did not contain a high-action plot, but had just the right amount of drama and humor to keep me thoroughly entertained. I found myself feeling sorry for Evie and anxiously waiting for her and Adam to realize that while being together may seem wrong, it is definitely oh so right!
