About book La Guardiana De Las Ciudades Perdidas (2013)

4.5GOODNESS GRACIOUS THIS WAS A DANG GOOD BOOK. Okay. This was a total on-a-whim, never-heard-of, don't-know-what-it's-about book. So I went into it with zero expectations and completely blind. Actually, that was a lie. Partly. After seeing that 4.40 rating I was like oh my gosh what even I must read this now. And I immediately ran (literally) over to the library to pick it up. The first...I'll say third of this book, I was just like, yeah, this is alright. But it was no 4.40 star book let me tell you.I didn't say what this book is about.... (Can you tell that no planning at all went into this review?)So it follows 12 year old Sophie, and since she was just five she has been able to hear everyone's thoughts. She's a mind reader. (dun duN DUN!)And one day, a mysterious (and attractive, surprise surprise)boy shows up and tells her she is an elf. No, not a short person in tights singing Christmas tunes, but a kickbutt elf with awesome powers like from Lord of the Rings. Sounds awesome, right?Sophie finds herself in a new elf inhabited world and going to A FREAKING FANTASY SCHOOL FOR ELVES! And also that she's special and powerful and blah blah blah but did I mention the school? Sorry, I love magical schools. And when she started going to Foxfire (the said school), that's when stuff started getting really really good. Like 4.40 good. I loved the world. It's so interesting. Some elves are gifted with gifts, like mind reading, or teleportation and tons of other talents that were really cool to learn about. I thought it was developed well and just really fun to read about. And the characters...they are just great... They're so funny and lovable and flawed and they just warmed my heart up like hot chocolate. (That made more sense in my mind)Plot: SO exciting and I can't wait to see what happens next. And for middle grade, it's pretty unpredictable, which I love. Over all it was a very fun, fast-paced read. I get the same vibe from it as I do Harry Potter. (gasp!) No, I'm not comparing it to HP, just they do have their similarities, with the schools and such. They are completely different yet similar, so I would recommend it to fans of Harry Potter (as in everyone) This was so evocative of Harry Potter in the best possible way. This book just solidified my love for middle grand fantasy. 12-year-olds going on crazy adventures with fun magic and action? Oh yes. Sign me up. Favorite part? Hard to say. I absolutely adored the entire slew of characters. Sophie, Dex, Biana, Fitz, Keefe, Tiergan, Grady, Edaline, Alden, even Iggy — I loved them all. I need book two in my life. Pronto.

3.5 starsPerhaps longer and slower than it needed to be, but not terrible.
