When the murderer of the king frames two thieves for hire for the assassin, he couldn't have done a poorer job choosing...Our main protagonists (Riyria) Royce and Hadrian are both wonderful characters. In fact, most characters introduced in this book are quite good- whether it be the entitled and haughty noble woman Alenda (merely a passing side character) or the sheltered and adorably genuine monk Myron. They may not all be the most original characters, but they certainly are vibrant. That statement in fact sums up largely how I feel about this book--the religion, the kingdoms, the characters, the storyline--they may not be very novel, but they are rather fun to deal with. While the first book of the series is a little on the predictable side, the reading experience was enjoyable none the less, and I would recommend this book to anyone looking to pass some time with some good ol' fantasy! OK, so I gave this book 5 stars... It's definitely not the best book I've read, but I did enjoy it and had trouble not reading it in one sitting (as, alas, I often do to books). Though I haven't read many fantasy books, I must say that at the end of the book, I had a good feeling about reading it, but was still slightly lost as to the whole world; that very well could have been my fault though, seeing as I am a fast reader and am known to scan quickly over descriptive paragraphs. On another note, however, I did feel a little like his characters weren't too well drawn out to the reader. Hopefully they become better as the series progresses. Too anyone trying to avoid swearing and the like, I only remember 1 or 2 swear words throughout the whole book which left me pleasantly surprised. Michael Sullivan also didn't describe anything adult, though some was hinted at and a few of the female characters were prostitutes; I personally was thrilled with that.Anyway, the book ended so well, I feel like I don't even have to read the next 5 books. However, I will... True, this might not be my favorite book, but I definitely don't mind reading a multitude more like it!
Do You like book La Conspiración De Melengar (2008)?
the first book is a tad disappointing, though as the series builds up, it gets a lot better

A fun, light read. I'll definitely check out more by the author at some point.
