An fun tale -- not without flaws, but still fun. The story itself is fine, but the our two thief heroes is what makes these books so fun -- they just have good chemistry. Like any good buddy cop movie they have conflicting motivations and personalities, but their playful disagreements are fun and they do get into a lot of trouble. Their hidden secrets are a bit obvious. The worst part of the series is the Church. They are so unabashedly evil, yet no one seems to have a clue -- even when their words make it really obvious they're full of crap. Oh while I liked the princess in the first book, she's just embarrassing in this book. She misses the complete obvious, trusts people that have not just betrayed her but then tried to get on her good side by telling a partial truth that shows that the betrayer is entirely untrustworthy. I wish she were stronger, smarter, and more interesting. But overall a quick, page-turner that leaves me hungry for book #3. This book takes place quite a bit later than where book one left off. I'm not sure if its months or years. For me, I found this story even more exciting than the last installment. Its nothing like the first book and certainly a continuation of the series. Conspiracies run rampant in this novel, plenty of action and battle scenes continue to fill the pages of this great adventure. One of the additions to this book is an evil mythical monster who plagues a small town. No one but the true heir to Novron will be able to "kill" it. Reading these books is like getting tossed into a time warp and being transported to a different world. In this story we are introduced to some new characters. My favorite new character happens to be a young woman called Thrace. She's so amazing. I adore how she's so determined and loves unconditionally. Her devotion to her father is admirable. I found so many new twists and turns in this book, I never really could guess how it might end up. At the conclusion, I'm still not sure of what will come next. This one ended on a slight cliffhanger. I'm excited to get started on the next book to see how everything will continue to play out.
