Plenty of reviews on this one already. I read this one a while back and I guess forgot to add it. Long story short, Bourne shit the bed. Give the guy credit he's writing between tours, but where the prior two incarnations of this series were concise, driven portrayals of grim survivalism, this one dallies too long and strays too wide of course. He treats plot lines that have no business being in the story in an effort to cover a lot of ground- and it would have been impressive had the book been 200 pages longer and fleshed out to completeness. And the ending. I'm not gonna spoil it, but I can't even get started. It's a disappointment. Anticlimax. He's thinking about a 4th book now (I guess? Hints of learning about the lost squad etc) and sadly I'm thinking he's milking a franchise now, because if he had any investment in the quality of this one, he'd let it die. One star for the story plus one for the carry over of just good zombie writing makes two, down from two 5-5's. I'm sorry to say but this book, the 3rd book in the Day by Day Armageddon series, was not all that good. The first two books where in journal style of an unnamed navy pilot later nicknamed Kilroy (Kil). This third book almost totally breaks away from that style. This makes this book feel like it's not really part of the series. The ending of this book is disappointing. It feels like after the first half of the book the author was just in a hurry to finish and keep the book small. There was alto of buildup to a lame climax.I really like the first two books. It's unfortunate that this third one did not live up to those.
