About book Kitty's Greatest Hits (2011)

I loved this collection of stories set in Kitty's world, perhaps even more than the novels (which are always must-reads for me). While it's titled Kitty's Greatest Hits, the book includes plenty of stories without our radio host/werewolf named Kitty, looking at some of the supporting characters from the novels: Rick, the Master vampire of Denver, the were-hunter Cormac, Kitty's werewolf friend T.J., and more. Since the Kitty books are told in first person, we normally see the characters through her perspective. Here she brings them to an entirely different kind of life. The stories are varied in style, content, and time period, with no boring moments or repetition.I had no idea Carrie Vaughn was such a talented short story writer. These are some of the best paranormal fiction tales I've read in quite a while, with fantastic characterization and killer ending lines to each story. The stories also stand alone very well. You don't need to be familliar with Vaughn's other work, and they don't need to be read in order. If you love paranormal stories and don't want to commit to a novel just yet, check these out. I don't know what to expect from this, but it was at the library and I love Kitty so I picked it up. 6-25-12: there were a couple of stories completely unrelated to Kitty Norville. They were good and well written, but I was distracted trying to figure our which character came from the books. Other than that, a great read. I especially loved getting to know more about Rick and learning more about what happened to Cormac in prison and how he and Ben got to be so close. Seeing TJ again and learning more about his backstory was a little sad. He never got a lot of time in the series. If you are a fan of the Kitty series, you'll enjoy this set of short stories.
