About book Just One Song (2000)

Sweet story. Nicole has gone trough one of the worst things losing her husband and son, horribly and at such a young age. She has closed herself off and not allowed herself to live. It's been over a year. Zack is a rockstar who is tired of the same old one night stands an women who just want to be seen with a rockstar and wand him for the rockstar lifestyle.Nic doesn't know who he is when her BFF tells her to go flirt with him. She is a breath of fresh air and not a groupie and he is instantly attracted to her.Their story is beautiful and sweet and Zack takes it slow for Nic's sake who is slowly accepting her second chance at love and at being loved. This book to me seemed great; it was a great concept and a little different from what I was used to reading. I was interested as I read, but then it just felt like the story went on and on. By the time I finished, I was scanning through the pages, reprimanding myself for doing it and going back to read them. I was irritated with the length of it by the time I finished and was reminded intensely of Lamb Chomp's "This is the Song That Never Ends." I left the review alone for a bit so that I could give this book the fair review it deserved.I liked the characters, though as I read on and on about Nicole, I began to like her a little bit less. I understand the tragedy and all of that, but her inability to think beyond anyone but herself and her own feelings irritated me a little bit. I've never been much for the victimized type, either, but that's just me.Zack Walters was a very understanding man. It's funny that he's a rock star to me because of his gentle nature and whatnot, he really felt more of a country singer to me. He wasn't really rough around the edges or anything. After a while, his points of view were a little repetitive to me, in both content and in vocabulary. After thinking about it, the reason I thought the book dragged was because the description hints on a whole set of problems. The problems were then solved...but the story continued. I think either including the later events more clearly into the synopsis or breaking the second part off into a sequel of some sort would have been much more effective in the long run.All in all, I think that the story itself was all right. There was something from keeping it remarkable; I'm not exactly how this could have been fixed. The writing was not terrible or great and neither were the characters, really. But overall, the book has really great reviews so if you like romance in general and the story of healing more than just the romance aspect, you might enjoy this book.
