I read this book in one sitting. I love graphic novels, but there are two things that make a graphic novel good: the story & the art. Jane Eyre is a solid story & this graphic novel followed the novel very closely, almost a little too closely, I would say. There were details in this version that came directly from the novel, but didn't tie to the story as presented in the graphic novel. And the art wasn't anything to write home about. It's a joy to read an illustrated version of a classic, but I craved so much more from this one. I set about reading this book expecting to hate it, or atleast for it to be uninteresting, as I find most comics based on novels or films to be. But I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, the images have a bit too much of a feeling of old school illustrations to a stereotypical romance short story, but they actually work for this particular story. And yes, Jane Eyre is a romance story so melodramatic that it could only have been written by a young woman in the repressive 19th century, who had had little or no possibility to experience real love herself. Stil, it is a riveting story and the adaptation really works well, with a good flow in the visual storytelling, and not too much focus on the words as is often the case when literature is adapted into comics.Overall a good book that i recommend even though I usually steer clear of stories that has been moved from one media to another.
