Ack! I forgot to review this most charming of short stories!KJ Charles is an absolutely fabulous author. This story, with its wandering tattoo and smoking hot smexiness, is both witty (I actually laughed out loud, and more than once) and sweet. It also hints at a rather chilling potential plot point for the next book. All this in just a few pages.Damn it, Charles is just brilliant. :) ‘We’ll be seeing the shaman again, will we?’ Merrick asked, busying himself with the kettle.‘I should think so.’‘Thought we might.’Crane shot him a look. ‘What does that mean?’‘Well, why wouldn’t we,’ Merrick said. ‘I mean, he likes blokes and he’s sodding dangerous. Right up your alley, that is. In a manner of speaking.’‘If you’re going to be insolent, at least pour me coffee.’‘It’s brewing. Like trouble.’ A quite short update to the end of The Magpie Lord, and linking some threads nicely to book two. This starts with Crane and Day having sex in the library, and as well as Crane's tattoos, lots of the birds around the house come to life. Crane is showing his dominant side and there is still the humour running through - the letters at the end, Merrick running to find them when paintings come to life.Back in London, Merrick voices caution, Day has work decisions to make and Crane gets bossy!Great update, and free!
