i generally do not like reading historical romances set in scotland because of authors trying to replicate the brogue, but this story was interesting enough that i could almost overlook it. the plot, whereby the heroine's father's wife makes the h substitute herself for the spoiled 1/2 sister (who did not want to be wed or away from court) to go to scotland, get pregnant and come back "home" to deliver the baby for her 1/2 sister so the heroine's family wouldn't be hurt by her father's wife, who was in charge of the castle and all its occupants when the dad wasn't there! interesting! I really enjoyed this book. The author vividly transported me to Scotland in the early 1600's. I love the descriptions of everyday life in this time period, bath houses, birthing chairs, wedding night soiled sheets being flown for the entire clan to see (how horrifying!). I love the development of the relationship between Brodick and Anne. Mutual respect that blossoms into love. I really enjoyed the plot. Philippa, the stepmother, was one nasty villain. The plot kept my interest, the book was fast paced. The sex scenes were pretty hot, though I often found that I was so into the plot and what was going to happen next that I was hoping for a quick fulfillment to hurry to the next plot point. The ending felt rushed, I wish it would have been drawn out a little more because it felt like the book was really hitting its stride. Overall a 4.5. I was excited to find that I already had the next book, In the Warrior's Bed on kindle! Yay!
