4.5 stars! OMG, I'm exhausted. This book is so very suspenseful but oh so fabulous! I got it as a freebie on my Kindle and now I want to read this entire series (although I might spread it out a bit; not thinking I can handle that much suspense all at once!!). This book was a huge surprise. Usually freebies aren't anything special but this one is. The characters had so much courage and strength and went through a lot together and recognized their relationship was special. The angst was all from outside sources, not from within their relationship (a nice change). This book is primarily set in current war-torn Pakistan. Pretty violent but I suspect, pretty realistic. I suspect the author has someone in her life or herself who has been over there but it was very well done. As long as you can handle this type of violence, I absolutely, seriously recommend this book! I'm not super into military dudes. I have personal reasons for this that are good, strong reasons based in experience.So this book is ok, considering my ambivalence about the subject matter.It is a bit racist and simplistic, and there isn't much respect for the lives of non-whites. And I don't buy the love story (I buy the LUST, just not the love), so it didn't work for me on that level. That said, the main characters are both a lot of fun, and the side characters were great and will probably lovely novels of their own as teh series expands.
