I loved this book! I thought that the story was very cute and I enjoyed the illustrations. This book would be a good book to read to children who are just learning to read. This book would offer good support to new readers. I chose to place this book into my writing workshop shelve because this story could be used for a creative writing project. The students could be asked to write a non fictional story about how they learned to read. I liked this book. The dog's expressions throughout the book went so well with the story. In the beginning this dog couldn't read, but he finds this bird who is a teacher and the bird insists on teaching him. The bird eventually leaves to go south for the winter but the dog found himself sounding out and spelling different words. This book shows that you may not be able to do something on your own but with the help of someone else they can help you do something and eventually you will be able to do it on your own.
