About book Duck & Goose, It's Time For Christmas! (2010)
Duck and Goose are back again. My 18 month old got this book as a Christmas present. All his present opening had to stop immediately as he excitedly asked to read it.Before I get into the story, let me first say that the texture of the cover is incredibly fun. Something about glitter and texture both seem to be winners for my little guy. It just adds to the feel. The story itself is lacking plot, but Goose keeps it silly and light. Apparently this is the funniest of the Duck and Goose books so far because my little guy cracks up at Goose more than with any other book.As always, the artwork is simple, subtle, and cute. The choice of subtle colors instead of bold and bright appeal to me as a mother as well as to my little guy. It's nice to have a book where I'm not blinded by bright colors, and the pages aren't so full of activity that it seems confusing and chaotic. It's nice to have a set of simple books we can both enjoy together. Another winner from Duck & Goose, this board book takes a quietly funny approach to the holidays. Duck is in a hurry to get somewhere, but Goose wants to linger a bit. Goose wants to catch snowflakes, slide down hills, build a snow fort, and much more. It isn’t until the very end of the book that readers learn where Duck was headed in such a hurry. The illustrations are clever and very inviting, especially to fans of other Duck and Goose books. The gentle humor and great friendship is exactly what we have come to expect from Hills. With its short text and board pages, this book will appeal most to children aged 1-3.
