About book His Secretary: Undone (2000)

I give this book a 2.5 stars. I found the beginning amusing at first. Loved the relationship between the two, but thought how it progressed seemed a little far-fetched to me. I liked Meghan too at first, but her insecurities and body issues annoyed me. Adrian was sweet too and I liked how he accepts her despite the way she looks, but they way he explained himself made him seem like he has some weird fetish for buxom ladies...It was kind of gross. Hahaha. I also thought the email exchange between Meghan and Natalie McBride was unethical and inexcusable. Methinks Meghan let him off too easy. Okay, I like my romance with an edge, with strong dark and complex men and women. On occasion I'll read a sweet HEA romance and will enjoy it if it has interesting characters, good (smart and well written) dialogue, sexy scenes, and some suspense in the plot. Because these elements were missing, I did not enjoy this book or the one other book I've read by this author. The story has very weak male and female leads, Meghan who is plus size and bullied by her mom, and Adrian a beautiful billionaire who falls in love with her but can't bring himself to tell her. Instead, he writes a romance novel that is based on her and then uses it to romance her. This plot is beyond boring, and the absence of interesting secondary characters to add texture, complexity, and keep the story moving caused me skip pages to get to the end. Add to this that the dialogue between Meg and Adrian read as if it was written by a petulant 16 year old, and the absence of steamy sexual chemistry between the two, and you understand what made this book flat, slow, and boring. Yes, there are sex scenes but just no "heat" in them. The idea that Adrian was traumatized as a 12 year old or so by his father burning his journals, mocking his interest in writing, and forcing him to later take over the billion dollar family business did not make Adrian seem sexy, strong, dark or interesting. Just a weak whiner is how he appeared.I applaud writers who write story about women other than size 2, blonde beauties. However, this book just fell flat. Yes, by the end Meg embraced her curves but there was no big road to self discovery beyond Adrian's ongoing compliments and praise for her curves. Though, at one point, he mentions the difficulty "he" faced openly preferring full figured women. That made me want to scream, "Really dude!"
