About book Here Lies Bridget (2011)

In here lies Bridget it is all about Bridget Duke, a mean girl...And mean she really is...Bridget is the uncontested ruler of her school. She is mean to her stepmother who's actually really nice and tries to get a good connection to her.Bridget is popular and nasty to those that are not! When a new girl arrives at school, everything changes for Bridget and not in a positive way!She no longer ''rules'' the school and the guy she likes doesn't even look at her anymore! In an attempt to end her life she drives too fast and crashes her car.Instead of dying she ends up in limbo. Here Bridget is forced to see things differently and to make things right again!Everyone deserves a second chance, right?..To be honest Bridget is not a likeable character! In the first half of the book she's a spoiled and selflish girl who treats everyone like dirt! She doesn't see how her behaviour affects the people around her!In the second half of the book, Bridget is put in the shoes of the people that she hurt and feel how they felt. She realizes that what she did to other people was wrong and that she has to fix things! This book had a bit of Scrooged & Mean Girls feel to me and it was a quick read! I'll admit: it was difficult to get into this book and empathise with the main character, Bridget, because she was just too self -absorbed, rude and down right bitchy. She has some sort of epiphany and is shown the error or her ways, but I feel as though it was all for nothing because she ultimately didn't learn her lesson. Also, I'd gotten far used to disliking her character to want to change my opinion. This book reminded me of Mean Girls quite a bit because Bridget was the perfect example of Regina George. (Although it wasn't as entertaining as the film, obviously.) However, this book did have its fair share of entertaining and thought-provoking bits too but they were overshadowed by the annoying point of view Bridget had.I wouldn't read this book again out of choice but if you can tolerate reading a book through the perspective of someone so arrogant and spoiled, by all means read this book.
