About book Heaven Misplaced (2008)

I tried to give the suspension of disbelief Douglas Wilson asked for, but even in the midst of that I struggled through this book. I'm admittedly coming in as a panmillenialist, but looking for firm up my position on the Millenium. I felt throughout most of the book I was unable to track where Wilson was at and where he was going. He would reference Scripture and make statements that it "clearly" says his point, yet most of those times I felt he pulled his point out of somewhere than the text, I just could not connect the dots he was telling me connected. It. Halfway through, I was scratching my head wondering if he was advocating universalism, even if I suspected he didn't. For the record, he does state he does not hold the universalist position. The exception to not following was his comments on using the New Testament to interpret the Old Testament, and how the book of Revelation mostly came to pass in the 1st century. Those I was able to track with and see where he was going. The rest of it, not so much. While I am not throwing out his post-millennial viewpoint, I'm not entirely convinced of it from this book, either. From the chapters I was able to follow, there is some items to give more thought to. The vision put forth in this little gem of a book is one of the most encouraging and motivating positions on the dominion of Christ and the future of our world. Wilson does a great job at consolidating the Biblical story and putting it in terms that are easily accessible to any Bible reader. The only issue that I would take up with Wilson concerning this book is the lack of emphasis he places on the church's character role in the carrying out of this vision. It seemed to me that the emphasis misplaced was on the advance of Scripture itself, without proper attention given to the entity, the New Jerusalem (the Church), who was entrusted with Scripture and authority to advance.
