About book Heaven Is For Real Conversation Guide (2011)

For this quarter I read the book "Heaven is for Real" which was written by the father of the main character, named "Colton". The authors name is "Todd Burpo." The reason he probably wrote the book was to let everyone else know the story of his sons great adventure to heaven and back. He also tells his story because he wants to influence others by telling them his own story. What made it different was that Colton was only 4 at the time, then after his surgery he knew things that he never would of known before. Todd saw this as an amazing story in his life from his point of view of the father, and wants to tell others. Todd also states that its "An astounding story of his sons trip to heaven and back." The theme of this book is about how his son had gone to heaven. Also that his son was able to identify what was going on around him when he was very unstable in surgery. Todd wrote the book to tell the stories for his son, who was only 4 years old at the time. He asked his son what he wanted to tell everyone that read this book, he answered "That heaven is for real." That is probably the main theme of the book in Colton's words. Another quote in the story was taken from Jesus, who said, "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3) The style of the book was written as a narration. This is because the story is told through a series of events that are in chronological order. You can tell because the author was telling the story of what he had seen and thought in the order that it happened. The story was also how the family reaction to what Colton had to say, like when he told them where they were and what they were doing when he was in the surgery room. My opinion on the book is that it is a very fun and interesting book. I always seemed to want to read more because you don't know how else Colton will surprise the family. I liked how the author showed the whole story of how Colton described it, and how the family slowly was able to find out more about his adventure. They didn't overwhelm Colton with questions at first, they were just aware of the situation. The only downfall in this book is at some points you will not become as interested, but that just makes you read more so you can get to the next big part. I thought that it was a great book to read though. One of my favorite quotes from the book is, "Do you remember the hospital?" Sonja (Colton's mom) asked. "Yes, mommy I remember," he said. "That's where the angels sang to me." I would want others to read this book too, or there is also another book that is similar called, "90 Minutes in Heaven" by Don Piper, that I would like to read. My favorite part of the book is two different times when Colton tells his father of who he saw in heaven, but I don’t want to spoil it so you'll just have to read it! Heaven Is for Real by Todd Burpo is about a little boy, Colton. The book is a nonfiction piece in which Todd is the father of Colton. The family was struggling all year long due to the low income of Todd, a pastor in their town. Colton became very ill and was hospitalized early on in the book. Colton was very close to dying at one point and his mother, father, and community prayed for him to live. When Colton wakes up, he tells his dad that he saw and met God. Many, including his father did not believe Colton. After a turn of events, this disbelief changes into belief.I rated this story a five out of five because they plot line was phenomenal and the descriptions Todd uses about Colton and God's meeting are spectacular. This book is directly mostly towards religious people, but it can be enjoyed by anyone who is willing to read it. The experiences Colton has throughout the story kept me intrigued which made it a very good story to read.
