2 'Cold, colder, coldest' Stars.I love angst but dislike it when it's fabricated unnecessarily, like it is here; I think Brandon Shire may have had a brain fart when it came to Heart of Timber, the tone and sentiment are so different to Cold it's like it was written by someone else. Where is the chemistry, where is the suspense, where is the heat, where is the love? This Anderson assumes Lem will replace him with someone else even though Anderson is the only person Lem has been with in 18 years? This Anderson abandons Lem and doesn't visit or write. This Anderson 'seethes' when presented with a chance to be with Lem and throws a total hissy with Gia after everything she's done for both him and Lem, all the while flouncing around, acting like a child, when faced with any dilemma.This Anderson is not very likeable and neither is this story, I expected this to be a seamless continuation of Cold, focusing on Lem's secrets and the revelations about his past, which turned out to be the dampest squib of all. This one ties up the loose ends, except it does so a little too pointedly. Some of the POV shifts and backtracking kind of kill the sense of a story developing. This isn't a continuation of the story so much as answering the unanswered questions brought up in the first book.Still, I didn't altogether dislike it. The kinky aspect, when I stop and think about it, is really quite odd.Still, it wasn't bad. It was weird, and seemed almost - but not quite - completely unrelated to the first book, but it was still kind of nice.

I didn't like it as much as Cold. Skimmed the sexy times, too.
