About book Haz Şövalyesi (2000)

Being a fan of historical fiction, I figured this book would be a nice way to ease into reading romance. Yes, this is the first romance novel I've read completely through. Normally I give up a couple chapters in, so having finished says a little something. I liked that there was some action in the book and that the main character could handle a blade. I liked the alternating POV chapters and really liked Stephen's chapters. It was about the last quarter of the story where I just began to really get annoyed by Isobel. She was such a strong woman in the beginning and then turned into a whining, crying, pouting child after her betrothal. Even worse, the man of her dreams confesses his feelings and she shuns him with the most ridiculous excuses. Then cries over her decision. It seemed so completely out of character to me that it ruined the book. Twas a nice historical romance. We start with Isobel, as a child she was headstrong and learned to sword fight with the boys. Her father, in an attempt to get back his lands that were taken because he turned against the king, married her off to an old rich dude. Isobel suffers through the marriage until the old man dies. Then Isobel learns that some jack-ass tricked her dead husband into leaving the lands to him instead of her, and now she was supposed to marry the jackass. The Bishop gives her a choice, marry Jackass, or the King will betroth her to a Frenchman to assure alliances. She goes with the Frenchman. While waiting for the Frenchman to show up, Isobel meets Stephen. She meets other people, that are pretty important to the story, really. Like, King Henry. He's important. And Robert. But, let's focus on Stephen first. Stephen is a knight and spy that spends his nights drinking and banging chicks. But when he sees Isobel he falls in love, as men are prone to do in these books. The thing is, Isobel is promised to a Frenchman, who is taking his good ol' time showing up.Isobel and Stephen try to resist each other, fail in the long run, but it doesn't seem to matter because the Frenchman shows up, finally. There is a happy ending, of course, but there are a lot of hurdles Isobel and Stephen have to jump to get to their happy ending.I liked this book a lot, mostly because even though I knew there was going to be a happy ending, there were moments where I was unsure about that. I know that sounds weird. I dunno, I liked reading about a couple actually having to work for their relationship, even when Stephen was sure Isobel was lost to him, he never really gave up hope.
