About book Grace, Gold, And Glory: My Leap Of Faith (2012)

Grace, Gold & Glory is about the amazing story of Gabrielle Douglas. It is a really inspiring book. It shows her determination toward her sport. It shows that even though she grew up with not having as much as others, all she needed was determination. She opens up about how going through with your dreams isn't always an uphill mission. You will have to have some downhill action. It shows everybody that it takes hard work and dedication to complete your goals in life. This isn't only about gymnastics, this applies for any career or goals in life. Wether it be for a little girl wanting to be a doctor, or an old man to breaking a record. I recommend this to anybody that need inspiration or just a good read. The statement of the authors purpose in the book Grace, Gold, and Glory: My Leap of Faith is, that if one dreams of something that can take one far, one shall never give up and try ones hardest to persevere. The reader comes to understand that if one gives up on what one has worked for, the one will not ever be able to achieve their goals. The point of view in the story is in Gabby's perspective. Throughout the story it helps modify on how she is feeling about situations that she is going through. This book is a biography on Gabby's life story, and how she was able to become who she is now. Gabby Douglas was born in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with her brother, sisters, mom, and dad. Her family lives in an rv and doesn't have enough money to get gas, let alone having enough money to take care of their children. Gabby's mother decides to take her kids and get a better job by leaving her husband alone. While Gabby is growing up she develops a big Interest in gymnastics. Mrs. Douglas ends up getting a job as a business woman and is able to provide good Heath and shelter for herself and her kids. Gabby starts in a small gymnastics class that helps her gain strength to becoming an Olympian, which is her dream. Gabby decides when she is finished with learning the basic skills that she wants to be coaches by the Olympic coach Liang Chow, coach of Olympic gold medalist, Shawn Johnson. Gabby is able to find a family to take care of her in Iowa, where Coach Chow lives, to persevere her dream in becoming an Olympic athlete. The one problem is that she will be away from her family. Gabby ends up training with Chow For the olympics, and improves drastically. During a competition, Gabby develops and injury that can break her career. She thinks that gymnastics is not her passion anymore and she wants to quit. Gabby realizes that if she quits, she will fail to become what she wants to be. Gabby decides to stick with the sport and ends up winning the individual gold for The US, and the group for the team. The most interesting thing about Grace, Gold, and Glory, is how much the biography focuses on Gabby's mother. Gabby's mother plays a role in this biography as a role model. She almost sacrifices all of her time and life to make sure her kids are well cared for, and make sure they do what they love. To me that shows how amazing of a woman she is. Much of the book revolves around the family's struggles with money, illness and even briefly, homelessness. But Gabby's determination was matched by her mother and siblings' understanding of her talent, to the point of sacrificing their own hobbies to support hers. I would recommend this book to girls who have an interest in gymnastics, or anyone who watched the Olympics. This book really inspires me to do my best and work for the thing I love in life!
