About book Glory Be (2012)

I thought the story about the sisters was excellent. The changing relationships, secret games, all so true! Some of the other characters weren't really developed or explored as much as I would have liked (librarian, Robbie, Laura, Frankie's big brother...) and so the civil rights movement stuff was OK but a little off for me. It seemed quick for Glory to change her tune, she was so worried about Laura at the drinking fountains but she thought Robbie had done the right thing? Also I didn't like the idea that trouble was starting so both Laura and Robbie were running back where they came from. Anyway, nice quick story. Would be excellent for kids I think. A strong reminder of the past, this book had lots of twists and turns throughout each event. Glory goes through betrayal, surprises, and lies. Her life with her high school sister, Jesslyn, is very surprising. Jesslyn starts meeting with a new boy in town who loves Elvis just like her. All of this is done behind her family's back. Frankie Smith is one of Glory's friends, who suddenly betray her. Yankees are coming from everywhere and the community pool is closing. How could Glory's life get any better? I think that this book was a very good book, but some of the plot was not as clear as others.

I was hoping for a more exciting ending. It fell a little flat. But a good story!
