I really enjoyed Glenn Beck's Common Sense. I loved how he put it into the perspective of our society today. It was really an eye opener! We can't keep avoiding the lies,hypocrisy, and mischief that is taking place in our government today. Glenn Beck brings to light many of those issues and explains how we can use our " Common Sense" in standing up for what is right! I very much recommend this book! The authoritative prose in which Glenn Beck has wrote this masterpiece is both formidable and riveting. Most of my friends and contemporary citizens would be aghast and would undoubtedly abhor his sentiments towards the economy. I am not ignorant to the fact that he has concrete views and used information to engender a fondness of those views. His bias is the in the anitpode of progessivism, he believes to stray from the Founding Fathers creed is inexplicably vacuous. This book was brief, maybe 100 pages depending on your version and it spoke of many ubiquitous truths. The reason many would be opposed to this book would be that they are wholeheartedly bound to a partisan point of view - nothing could be more foolish and ignorant. To align yourself to a party, and to follow only doctrines pronounced by that particular party would be to give up your inalienable rights to stupidity and more saliently, the freedom to think and act without a group. In my opinion, I say we should have minimal progressivism in today's day in age. Most of the constitution is written with forethought of the future; the founding fathers knew better than modern politicians about the quintessential way of life, for they were without corruption and the notorious gerrymandering. Today, we see both republicans and democrats falling astray and bending the primordial rules and guidelines. This is a dismaying observation, but truth, no matter how depraved, is the doctrine of life. It seems most people feel it is un-American to speak their mind, however no debate or discussion in un-American. As Glenn Beck said "Only those afraid of the truth seek to silence debate, intimidate those whom they disagree, or slander their ideological counterparts." He goes on for pages about how people feel the need to quiet their unpopular opinion because it doesn't align with the government's objective; people need to realize that the government should be afraid of us, not the other way around. They have sagaciously made us realize a fabricated dichotomy that we now oblige our views exclusively to a political party, this could not be more folly. Furthermore, the art of gerrymandering is ridiculous. Basically, it is the action of planning the lines in which you will represent, by an in-depth study of the political views of that region to ensure a seat for your party. Our men of the past would abhor this nonsense, for this is just an intentional democracy, and democracy is akin to socialism. That is why we are a Republic. I have rambled on for too long, but my views on this subject are immense and thoughtful. I shall promote my blog, which will entail philosophy and political views that I garner throughout my years of life. I will leave this off with a quote about modern politics:"There was a time when our political leaders cited their leadership, temperament, experience, judgement, character and merit in order to gain the trust and support of a skeptical electorate. Today they purchase votes and campaign cash by boasting about the pork they've secured for their pet projects or the billions they've passed along to their powerful allies." - Glenn Beck

Glenn Beck is an intelligent human being. He has the knowledge, I understand that, but he shares it in such a preachy way that I didn't feel like I was learning anything. Telling me that you can't fixing a debt problem by spending is not groundbreaking information. I do believe that the title was well chosen, because most of what Beck says is common sense. Maybe it would have helped if I had read a hard copy of this as opposed to listening to the audio. I don't like to be yelled at and repeatedly told to "wake up" because I've been "lied to." I understand that no matter what party is in office they will make bad decisions. They are human, this will happen. I also agree that you should pay attention to what is happening in your government, because if you don't stand up for your rights, you can't complain when they disappear. I just don't think that beating people over the head by telling them they are clueless sheep is the way to encourage people to pay attention.
