About book Miracles And Massacres: True And Untold Stories Of The Making Of America (2013)
It took me a bit to get into it, but overall, I enjoyed this book. The writing makes it easy to connect with the characters, instead of dryly reading about them like in most historical pieces. Some of the massacres committed by Americans were disturbing to say the least, but I am glad I am aware of them now. The My Lai Massacre stands out as the most atrocious and terrifying. My favorite chapters were on Edison vs. Westinghouse, The Battle of Wounded Knee, Easy Eddie, Tokyo Rose, and the Battle of Athens. I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads. This is one book that everyone learning our history should read. I learned more about what happened during these events than my time in school and even afterward, by just reading! My favorite story is the one about Tokyo Rose. I really never understood what happened and this was an eye-opener. All the stories were written well, and made just like fiction reads. But there are parts of our history in this book that people need to know so we don't make the same mistakes. A definite best read!
