About book Girls In White Dresses (2011)

I really REALLY wanted to like this book. I loved the idea and concept and heard a lot about this book. It became confusing to me with the intertwisting of stories that included characters at different times in their lives. I felt it jumped back and fourth to much and not very smoothly. The characters talked about different times in other's lives when the book would clearly say that the character was somewhere else. It felt confusing. I want to read it again to give it another shot. This read was bearable but ultimately not something that I would ever recommend to someone. The book was centered on relationships that the (many) girls were in and the relationships were for the most part pathetic. You're willingly going to go out with a stranger knowing he's an arrogant jerk? and cry (for years) over a guy that's broken up with you over three times? or stay with a guy who you never spend time with because he's chosen his career over you but then complain about it even though you've known about this FROM THE MOMENT YOU MET HIM!? Like really? Or! you have a great guy and you're going to become all clingy and crazy? Please. Stop. The most annoying thing is that these girls self-inflicted these bad relationships. This book only got three stars from me because I like how this book functioned almost like intertwined vignettes and the author intrigued me enough to keep reading. I liked Mary. I also surprisingly liked Lauren because she was the most entertaining and perhaps most real character in the entire book. Otherwise, the ending was stupid and these girls suck.

I was highly disappointed in this book. I read it because I was told it was a top book to read before turning 30. But why? This book was not relevant to a 20-somethings life, unless all she is consumed with is dating guys you don't really like and showing no concern for making a real life for herself. the reviews said it was hilarious and heartwarming, however I found it depressing and I seriously thought about giving up after the first 100 pages but kept holding out hope that it would get better. It was a huge let down....

All of these interwoven stories felt very real and honest. I have personally lived a few of these stories in one way or another. It’s really nice to feel connected to other struggling women even if they are fictional. There was an abrupt ending with no resolution, but I didn't really mind that. I loved this book and I wish I had read it 10 years ago when it would have been the most pertinent in my life; although it is still fairly relevant for me today.
