Before you think about this book being in old times it's not. It takes place in 20th century with all the things that we have. The only difference is that there is fighting. Rome style fighting more like it. Lyn has to fight in the arena to get her bracelet back. But unfortunately she cannot because of certain rules that are set. Though she tries to get it back she has to get past her mother's death and along with her seventh father, Tommy's death. But she can along with dealing with the special needs brother. I read this book a long time ago and recently came upon it again in the library. I had this vague memory of disliking the book but I couldn't remember why. But then I opened it up to a random page and immediately remembered. The author has a very unique style of writing - she basically makes up her own rules about punctuation. Instead of quotation marks she uses dashes - throughout the WHOLE book. It was super annoying to me as a reader and I just could not get past it. I felt the strange punctuation took away from the story and I just had no interest the whole time. I'll probably never read this book again, even though the blurb did make it sound really interesting, it just didn't work for me.
the only good part of the book is the last chapter. THATS THE ONLY GOOD PART.
